A Place To Write will be the name of my publishing company. This is where you will be able to acquire my digital, and sometimes printed, books. My hope is that when I'm gone, APlacetoWrite.org will become a charity providing a safe place to write for one or more writers who may have experienced threats of harm for writing, as I did.

This van will soon become my future home, my office on wheels, and a place to write. Later it could become a safe place for a writer to write...without fear of retaliation.

You see 'way back in 2006 the Board of Directors and Property Manager of my building in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada sent me a letter forbidding me to own a one-person business in the condo I had just bought. That business was simply writing digital and bound how-to books and delivering them via mail and the Internet. I made the mistake of selling two of my books to my neighbor who was on the Board of Directors. That was my downfall, even though all my transactions were US-based. My website was based in the USA, and the address I used was across the border in Lewiston, New York. All I did in my condo was think, type, and edit my books... silently. I didn't have customers enter my condo.

What was unfair in my mind is that the previous owner of my condo was also on the Board of Directors and for years had run a business
selling candles in the same condo. A man my age in the building ran an accounting practice in his condo and had clients come to him. There were also men who ran gambling parties. And one man showed me the machine he used to make fake driver's licenses selling them for $800 each. Even the assistant manager stopped me, mid-assignment, from dog sitting for a neighbor. But somehow I was the only person singled out as doing something illegal. Suddenly, with my sole income shut off, I had no way to pay my monthly $1000 mortgage or $400 condo fee.

My lawyer advised me that they were taking away my rights to free speech and more under the
Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and recommended suing for $4 million. I should have, but was too distraught trying to keep my bills paid.

My life became extremely difficult and unpleasant, not just financially, but physically.
In my building, I was bullied, attacked by someone who held a knife at my throat, twice, and I was also ambushed by a man with a gun. I went deeply into debt, had to sell my condo, and was homeless for the next 3 years.

Now
at 75, my mission is to one day create a charity that provides a safe place to write so that no female writer is targeted as I was.

I'll tell you more as I complete work on this website and the books I've written.

I will launch a
Kickstarter campaign when I have all the details worked out.
